Wookhee Min
Senior Research Scientist and Managing Director of NSF AI Institute for Engaged Learning
wmin@ncsu.edu
I am a Senior Research Scientist in the IntelliMedia Group within the Department of Computer Science at North Carolina State University, Managing Director of the NSF AI Institute for Engaged Learning, and a member of the Center for Educational Informatics. I received a B.S. in Computer Science from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, and worked for Samsung Electronics in South Korea for over four years as R&D staff. I received an M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science under the direction of Dr. James Lester at North Carolina State University.
My research interests lie in artificial intelligence, focusing on designing, developing, and evaluating AI-driven adaptive learning technologies. This includes an emphasis on natural language processing, multimodal learning analytics, user modeling, educational data mining, procedural content generation, and game-based learning environments. I have explored the computational modeling of rich streams of students’ multimodal interaction data (e.g., natural language, facial expressions, posture, gaze, interaction trace logs) to create adaptive learning environments. I have also examined large language model-based natural language processing approaches for student self-explanation assessment, team communication analysis, and automated scenario generation to provide both personalized learning and training experiences. Additionally, I have conducted research on AI education through game-based learning activities for middle school students, fostering their knowledge of AI concepts and interest in AI careers.
